New Dem Whip Marilyn Strickland on SAVE Act: “Disenfranchising Tens of Millions of American Citizens”
Today, New Democrat Coalition Whip Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) issued a statement on House Republicans’ effort to restrict voting rights for tens of millions of Americans by requiring them to show a birth certificate or passport in person at a polling place:
“At the direction of an election-denying President, Republicans made up the lie that ‘millions’ of non-citizens vote illegally to justify attacking the voting rights of the American people – including nearly 70 million married women who have changed their last name, rural Americans who have to travel far away to polling places, and thousands of servicemembers serving overseas. These extreme voter registration requirements and restrictions on absentee and mail-in voting are nothing more than voter suppression.
“With this regressive bill, House Republicans aren’t fooling anyone or safeguarding election integrity. They want to rig our elections by disenfranchising tens of millions of American citizens.”
